Linking assets to companies and contacts
Linking an asset to the right client records keeps your CMDB connected to the rest of SummitPSA. An asset can be associated with a company, a specific contact, and a site.
Set the associations
- Open the asset and click Edit (or set these while creating it).
- Choose a Company. If you created the asset from a company page, this is already filled in.
- Optionally choose a Contact (the primary user of the device) and a Site (its physical location).
- Click Save.
What links unlock
- The asset appears in that company's and contact's asset lists.
- The detail page surfaces related notes from the linked company and contact.
- Warranty alerts are grouped and routed using the linked company and its account manager.
Linking assets to tickets
Assets are linked to tickets from the ticket side — pick the asset on a ticket to associate them. The asset's detail page then lists its most recent linked tickets. You can search for assets while working a ticket by name, serial number, asset tag, or asset number; the search can be scoped to a single company.
Note: All three links are optional, but warranty alerts only fire for assets that have a company, since alerts are routed to the company's account manager. The links use set-null behaviour — if a company, contact, or site is removed, the asset record remains and simply loses that association.
