Adding assets
Assets in SummitPSA are the devices and equipment you track for your clients — workstations, servers, firewalls, switches, and anything else worth recording. Each asset gets a unique, auto-generated number and can be linked to a company, contact, and site. This article covers creating a single asset by hand.
Create an asset
- Open Assets from the main navigation.
- Click New asset. (If you start from a company page, that company is pre-selected for you.)
- Enter a Name. This is the only required field — everything else is optional and can be added later.
- Choose an Asset type (for example Laptop, Server, or Firewall) and fill in any hardware, network, warranty, or purchase details you have.
- Click Save.
On save, SummitPSA assigns a unique asset number in the format A-00001 and redirects you to the asset's detail page.
What happens behind the scenes
The asset number is generated from the database record's ID, so it is guaranteed to be unique and is never reused. Every creation is written to the audit log against the acting agent. To add an asset you need the create permission on assets.
Tip: Recording the Serial number and Asset tag makes assets far easier to find — both are searchable from the asset list and the global asset search.
