Organizing with categories and subcategories
Articles are organised into a two-level tree: top-level categories and their sub-categories. Managing the tree needs the knowledge_base manage permission.
Manage the tree
- Open
/staff/kb/categories. - Create a category with a name; a URL slug is generated for you. To make a sub-category, set its parent.
- Set a sort order to control the display sequence (lower sorts first), and optionally an intro for the category page.
Default visibility
Each category carries a default visibility. When you start a new article in that category, the form pre-selects that visibility — a convenient way to keep, say, a client-facing category public by default and an internal category internal.
Filing articles
An article picks one category and, optionally, one sub-category beneath it. The sub-category must be a real child of the chosen category, or it is ignored.
Deleting categories
A category can be deleted only when it has no articles and no sub-categories. Reassign or remove its contents first.
