Giving a contact portal access
Portal access is granted per contact. A contact can only sign in once they are active, have portal access enabled and have a portal password set.
Granting access
- Open the contact. The contact must have an email address.
- Use Grant portal access. You can supply a password, or leave it blank and a strong one is generated for you.
- Granting access sets the password, marks the contact as portal-enabled, and shows the password once so you can share it securely. The action is audited.
You can also tick Portal access while creating or editing a contact, but the contact still needs a password set before they can log in.
Unlocking a locked account
After too many failed sign-in attempts a contact is temporarily locked. From the contact page choose Unlock to clear the lockout; any agent who can edit contacts may do this.
Revoking access
Revoke portal access turns off the contact's access and clears their portal password. They can no longer sign in, and any active portal session is rejected on its next request. This is also recorded in the audit log.
Permission note: granting and revoking require theusers.managepermission; unlocking requirescontacts.edit.
