What happens if your license lapses
SummitPSA never hard-locks your install or your data over licensing. A lapsed license changes the banner admins see and your eligibility for updates and support — not your ability to keep working in the product.
The states you may see
| State | Banner | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Expired | Critical | Past the expiry date. “Renew to keep receiving updates and support.” |
| Suspended | Critical | The license was suspended by SummitPSA. Contact us. |
| Unrecognized key | Critical | The key was not found. Re-check the key or contact SummitPSA. |
| Unable to verify | Warning | The license server has been unreachable past the grace window. |
| Expiring soon | Info | 30 days or fewer remain. Renew to avoid interruption. |
Unreachable vs. expired
These are different. If the server is unreachable, your install keeps the last good response and tolerates the outage for a grace window — license_grace_days, default 7 days. Only after that does the “Unable to verify” warning appear. An expired license, by contrast, is a definitive answer from the server.
What still works
Everything. Tickets, time, invoicing, and the rest of the product continue to operate regardless of license state. What lapses is your entitlement to updates and support.
